On Tuesday, March 4, 2008 the UTS student body headed by Barbara Robertson (Student Academic Representative) and Galina Li (Divinity Student Representative) hosted a Faculty and Staff Appreciation Dinner. Over forty faculty members, staff and spouses, as well as many students attended the event.
Though the budget was very tight, Barbara and Galina thought big; and turned the original plan of a tea party into a beautiful, inspiring, and warm dinner banquet.
One hour before the event, students were dressed in their finest clothes, preparing for the event. At 6:00 pm the event opened with welcome remarks and a prayer. Students formed an assembly line to serve dinner to the guests of honor. The menu included salad, soup, grilled chicken with mushroom gravy, roasted potatoes, steamed vegetables, and rice pilaf, followed by a delightful fruit punch and a variety of homemade desserts.
During dinner the Student Council members, on behalf of the student body, took time to recognize UTS faculty and staff personally. Each person in turn stood up and was warmly applauded as a brief summary of their responsibilities and accomplishments was read.
Many attendees were delighted to meet Mr. Carl Verderber’s beautiful wife, Karen for the first time. Carl, UTS’ facilities and equipment supervisor, who has worked at the Seminary for over 7 years, was seen holding his thank you card close and saying, “I’ll keep this.” Robert Pumphrey, the Information Technology manager, who has improved the wireless network for the entire UTS campus, had a wonderful evening, according to his wife, Tweeran. In closing, Dr. Hendricks, UTS president, commented, “This was the best appreciation dinner ever!”
Special thanks to all of the wives, who prepared and donated sweet homemade desserts, and to Dean Davies, the Korean Association, the Parents Association, and to the students for their “extra” donations that made this event possible. Special thanks to Mr. Wungki Min, Ms. Julie Kyungju and Mr. Manho Joung, for volunteering to help coordinate from the beginning; to Glenda Lopez and Takeuchi Goto for their song presentations; to Ravil for his help with the sound system and to Andrew, Joe, and Kyoka for babysitting our guests children.
And an extra deep appreciation to Mrs. Mickler for her help and kindness and to her kitchen staff for such a wonderful meal.
