Rev. Kathy Winings, EdD, began teaching at UTS in 1989. Dr. Winings also served as the Dean of Campus for UTS’ New York City Extension Center having worked there since its inception in August 2000.

Together with faculty and staff, she expanded UTS’ influence throughout the greater metropolitan area of New York through the creation of various institutes and programs, setting UTS on the path of becoming a premiere seminary for effective urban ministry.

Dr. Winings also serves on the Steering Committee of the Center for Education at UTS, an organization committed to offering effective resources to religious educators, teachers, and pastors throughout North America and to supporting the creation of diverse “communities of practice” in education. As the President and Founder of Educare, an educational consulting firm, Dr. Winings conducts training programs and seminars dealing with a wide range of educational issues from effective teaching strategies to curriculum design to parenting. In this role, she has also aided in the development of diverse curricula and ministry manuals for Sunday Schools, youth ministries and schools.

Dr. Winings is also the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the International Relief Friendship Foundation, Inc., an international disaster and humanitarian development agency, after having served as its executive director for 11 years. She is also on the International Council for the World Association of NGOs (WANGO) and is a Board member of the Religious Education Association. As a public speaker, Dr. Winings has addressed audiences around the world on a wide range of educational, ministerial and social justice topics. The author of numerous articles in academic as well as popular journals and publications and the editor of a book on American Christian denominations, Dr. Winings published her first book in 2002 entitled: Building Character through Service Learning.

Dr. Winings received her Undergraduate degree in both Elementary Education and Media Studies from Fordham University, her Masters of Divinity from UTS, and her EdD from Teachers College, Columbia University.Dr. Winings was voted into Kappa Delta Pi, the National Honor Society for Education, and also received a special award for Women Educators from Teachers College. In 2007, Dr. Winings was a recipient of the Harriet Tubman Humanitarian Achievement Award. She is also listed in Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in International Education, and Who’s Who of Women Professionals
