The following report is from Dr. Robert Kittel, UTS ’93, who was in Kathmandu on April 25 and whose wife remains there. Dr. Kittel is temporarily visiting the United Statesand serves as the Universal Peace Federation Director for Education in Asia.

The Unification Theological Seminary welcomed two new trustees to the Board in April, Dr. Hugh Spurgin, UTS President announced.  “We are looking forward to the energy and talents of Dr. Thomas Ward and Dr. Christine Hempowicz of the University of Bridgeport,” Spurgin said.

On September 29, 2007 UTS trustees, members of the administration and students gathered for the opening of the newly renovated dining room at UTS’ Barrytown campus.

Chairman of the Board, Dr. Chang Shik Yang, offered a prayer of dedication for the new dining room and proceeded to cut the ribbon alongside UTS president, Dr. Tyler Hendricks, Vice-chairman of the board, Dr. Michael Jenkins, UTS Vice-President, Dr. Michael Mickler, UTS president emeritus, Dr David S.C. Kim and UTS Trustee, Mr. Chad Hoover.

A plaque honoring all contributors to the project was also dedicated. Contributions for the project ranged from personal to institutional levels, as alumni, trustees and friends of UTS united to finance the overall restoration.

UTS alumnus and trustee, architect Chad Hoover designed the new dining room and worked together with Dr. Michael Mickler to coordinate the renovation work in several stages over a period of 13 months.

After the re-opening trustees, faculty, staff and students shared lunch together in the new dining room.

This is the most recent project to see completion, in the continuous process of renovating UTS’ main campus. Previously contributors supported the restoration of East wing men dormitories and SW wing guest rooms. UTS appreciates the continued efforts and support of all donors.

The next project in the restoration pipeline is the renovation of several bathrooms on campus.
