On September 13th students at UTS’ Barrytown campus gathered for this years’ class representatives elections. Mr. Emmanuel Tanui was voted as our new Junior Class Representative. The list of candidates nominated by their fellow classmates included Mr. Stephan Goldiamond and Mr. Joshua Lorenzano. Stephan wowed the crowd with a poem he wrote about his mission and purpose to coming to UTS, while Joshua was impressive in his humility and sincerity. Over 80% of the junior class turned out to vote and after a very close election, Mr. Tanui came out the winner. In his introductory speech, Emmanuel stressed his hope of serving and living for the sake of others. Mrs. Galina Li was voted as our new Senior Class Representative. The senior class election process was more serious in nature. Nominees questioned themselves whether or not to spend their vital time to serve in the Student Council. Among the nominees, Mr. Riichi Hayashida and Mrs. Li confirmed candidacy for Senior Representative. After the result of voting was in, Mr. Hayashida told students his willingness to offer the Student Council a support as a student. The Junior and Senior class representatives play a vital role in the Student Council as the voice of their respective class. Class representatives’ duties include brining up issues affecting fellow students to the Students Council and informing their class of any news and updates in Student life. Congratulations to Mr. Emmanuel Tanui and Galina Li. Student Council is shaping up to be more dynamic active this year through their help and input.
