UTS is pleased to announce that Emmanuel Kipkorir Tanui (UTS '09) has been appointed to the position of national leader for the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification International (FFWPUI) in Kenya. Mr. Tanui is a recent Masters of Religious Education (M.R.E.) graduate. Prior to coming to UTS, Mr. Tanui was Youth Federation for World Peace Chairman in Kenya (1999-2002), Business Director of FFWPU (2002-04) Kenya and national leader of Somalia (2004-07). He also served as a Class 1 Aircraft Technician in the Kenyan Air Force.
Mr. Tanui was attracted by the Seminary's Interfaith Peace-building concentration. He stated that he regarded this approach to be of "paramount importance" in his ability to address the "persistent occurrence of conflict and strife" in East Africa. During his stay at UTS, Mr. Tanui exhibited exemplary academic, public speaking, and interpersonal skills. He also persisted in his program despite having to relocate his wife and three children following outbreaks of violence and destruction of property resulting from a disputed Kenyan presidential election during the course of his studies. UTS wishes Emmanuel all the best in his new mission!
